The University Club of Rockford attempts to give back to our community whenever
possible. One of our foremost programs is the U Club Scholarship program.
As is noted in the University Club of Rockford’s (“Club”) By-Laws, the Club’s purpose is to, “encourage and cultivate a social and friendly spirit among its members and to advance the interest of University and College trained persons in the institutions represented by them.” To aid in the development of tomorrow’s leaders, since the 1950’s the Club has graciously supported its scholarship program.
The Club’s Board of Directors is responsible for directing its Scholarship Committee. Participating high schools include: Auburn, Berean Baptist, Boylan, Cathedral Baptist, Christian Life, East, Guilford, Harlem, Jefferson, Keith Country Day, Lutheran, North Love, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy, and Rockford Christian. Each school is asked to select three candidates, with each candidate being selected solely on their merit-based achievements. Applications are then reviewed, and the Scholarship Committee then determines which candidates will be interviewed.
A minimum of four scholarships are awarded each May. The initial scholarship is $750.00 per awardee, and if the awardee maintains a B grade point average each semester over their first four years of collegiate studies, the scholarship may be worth as much as $6,000.00.
Club members and community friends are encouraged to make donations to the Club’s Scholarship Trust. Donations may be tax-deductible. As the Trust grows in value, the Club remains committed to generously rewarding our area’s best and brightest students.
